Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah chaired a meeting to review the preparations ahead of the urban flooding risk in the provincial metropolis of Karachi in the wake of the upcoming monsoon rains.
Sindh top bureaucrat said all institutions were on board with the Meteorological Department and PDMA to untoward possible stormy rains and flood disasters in Sindh.
Asif Hyder Shah was directed to summon a meeting of all deputy commissioners and district disaster management authorities.
Asif Hyder Shah directed the concerned department to ensure the availability of emergency equipment, machinery and dewatering pumps and field personnel.
Sindh CS said due to climate change, the province has been facing more rain and floods than usual.
He warned that there was a risk of urban flooding due to rain in all major cities of Sindh including Karachi.

Sindh Minister Saeed Ghani said Karachi local government representatives will also be included in the rehabilitation works.
He vowed to ensure funds provision to WASA in Hyderabad ‘soon’.
The provincial top huddle was given a briefing on the arrangements to deal with floods and rains. It was told that in southern province more than normal rains are expected in Sindh from July to September.
Climate change and Sindh
“5 to 9 lakh cusecs of water could come into the Indus River due to rain and melting of glaciers,” the provincial minister said.
In the year 2022, 1026 percent more rains than normal were recorded in Pakistan. In the year 2022, Larkana received 584 percent more rain than usual.
