A report claims that the iPhone SE 4 OLED screen of Apple's fourth-generation "Special Edition", would probably come from a Chinese company.
According to reports, the iPhone manufacturer was discussing the price of the display with three suppliers for the future midrange smartphone; one of them seems to have dropped out over the price of each display.
Apple did not announce any intentions to release a new iPhone SE model as of now, the current model was released in 2022.
The Chinese electronic component maker BOE (Jingdongfang), according to a ZDNet Korea story (in Korean) citing industry sources, has secured the contract to produce the OLED screen for the alleged iPhone SE 4.
The article stated that Apple was accepting proposals for the iPhone SE (2022) replacement from three vendors: Samsung, BOE, and Tianma.
The report states that BOE is probably going to supply most of the iPhone SE 4's screens after Samsung withdrew from the competition due to concerns about the feasibility of the business.
For each display unit, Samsung Display allegedly offered a price between $35 and $40, whereas the Chinese businesses reportedly wanted $30. With Face ID functionality, the iPhone SE 4 is expected to have a design similar to the design of the iPhone 14.
According to reports, Samsung terminated the talks in mid-March after Apple made a far lower offer of $25. Due to concerns about the lower cost, the South Korean tech giant was not particularly interested in making the midrange phone's screens from the beginning, the source told the publication.
Out of the two Chinese suppliers, BOE seems to be the only company that can make display units for the iPhone SE 4, and they are prepared to deliver the part for Apple's more affordable smartphone.
In the meanwhile, Tianma has been unable to meet Apple's technological specifications for the iPhone SE 4's display, which is expected to launch in 2025.
