The Sindh government-produced film 'Mera Lyari' has entered the race for an Academy Award (Oscar) nomination, a development Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has described as a major honor for both Pakistan and Sindh.
He said an eventual Oscar nomination would mark a historic milestone for the country's film industry.
The announcement came during an important meeting of the Film Board of the Sindh Information Department, chaired by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon.
The meeting focused on the promotion of Sindh's film industry, the progress of ongoing film projects, collaboration with OTT platforms, and future strategies for strengthening the province's creative sector.
Sharjeel Inam Memon said the inclusion of 'Mera Lyari' in the race for an Oscar nomination is an important achievement for Pakistan, particularly for Sindh. He added that if the film secures an official Oscar nomination, it would become a historic milestone for the country and the provincial film industry.
Film board reviews ongoing projects
The meeting was attended by Information Secretary Kashif Gulzar Sheikh, Information Director General Moiz Pirzada, and other senior officials.
Participants were briefed that the first phase of the Information Department's ongoing film projects has been successfully completed.
Officials also informed the meeting that negotiations are currently underway with several national and international OTT platforms and other relevant institutions regarding the exhibition and distribution of these film projects.
Sindh aims to strengthen film industry
Memon said the Sindh government is taking every possible step to promote the film industry, culture, and creative industries. He noted that the film industry not only projects the country's cultural heritage and positive identity but also creates employment opportunities, attracts investment, and encourages creativity.
According to the senior minister, the provincial government is working to transform Sindh into a strong and modern hub for filmmaking through continued support for local productions and industry development.
Focus on global outreach
The discussion also highlighted the government's strategy to expand the reach of Sindh-produced films through partnerships with OTT platforms and international distributors.
Officials said these collaborations are expected to provide greater visibility for local productions while creating new opportunities for filmmakers and the broader entertainment industry.
Sharjeel Memon reiterated that international recognition for 'Mera Lyari' would not only be a proud moment for Sindh but would also further elevate Pakistan's presence on the global cinema stage.
