A significant change in weather is expected across the upper parts of Pakistan over the weekend as strong winds, rain and possible hailstorms are forecast in several regions.
The Meteorological Department says a new system of westerly winds will bring unstable weather conditions starting Saturday evening.
According to the Met Department, a series of westerly winds will enter the northwestern parts of the country on Saturday evening, bringing a noticeable change in weather.
Due to this system, strong winds, thundershowers and hailstorms are likely in the upper parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from March 14 to 16. The weather system may also affect other northern regions during the same period.
Rain, hail expected in GB, Azad Kashmir
The Met Office has also predicted rain and hailstorms in some areas of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.
These regions may experience unstable weather conditions, including thunderstorms and gusty winds, as the weather system moves across northern Pakistan.
Thunderstorms possible in Islamabad, Punjab
In addition to the northern areas, thunderstorms and rainfall are also expected in parts of central and southern Punjab, including Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
Several cities in Punjab may experience rain accompanied by strong winds, which could temporarily lower temperatures and improve air quality.
The Met Department has also warned that another series of westerly winds may enter the western parts of the country on the night of March 17.
This system may bring additional rainfall to several regions, extending the period of unstable weather conditions.
PDMA Punjab issues rain alert
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a weather alert in response to the forecast. According to PDMA, rain is likely in most districts of Punjab from March 14 to 16.
The authority has advised relevant departments to remain alert and prepared for possible weather-related disruptions.
The PDMA Punjab has predicted rainfall in several districts across the province. Rain is expected in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Talagang and Gujranwala.
According to the PDMA spokesperson, rainfall is also forecast in Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Sargodha, Mianwali, Sheikhupura, Gujrat, Khushab and Mandi Bahauddin.
Additionally, Lahore, Sialkot, Narowal, Faisalabad, Jhang, Chiniot, Bhakkar, Layyah and Dera Ghazi Khan and surrounding areas may also receive rain during the forecast period.
Temperatures expected to drop
The weather system is also expected to affect temperatures in the province.
According to PDMA Punjab, temperatures in some areas of upper Punjab may drop by 3 to 4 degrees below normal levels in the coming days.
Authorities have advised citizens to stay updated with weather forecasts and take necessary precautions during periods of heavy rain or strong winds.
