The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a weather alert predicting rain and snowfall across various areas of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from 8 to 10 February.
According to the PDMA spokesperson, snowfall and rain are expected in Murree, the Galyat region, and surrounding areas on 9 and 10 February. Lahore may also experience rain accompanied by heavy clouds during the same period. Southern districts of Punjab are forecast to see rain and hail along with dense cloud cover.
Rain is also expected in Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Sargodha, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan, Khushab, Jhang, Noor Pur Thal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, and Sialkot.
DG PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia stated that local government departments, the health department, Rescue 1122, police, and the transport department have been placed on alert. He instructed that all preparations be completed in advance under the Chief Minister of Punjab’s guidance, emergency control room staff remain on 24-hour alert, and Rescue 1122 disaster response teams be kept on high alert.
He urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during the adverse weather. Tourists in Murree are advised to take precautionary measures and follow official instructions. Due to expected snowfall in Murree, district administration and relevant authorities remain alert. He also advised drivers to avoid speeding, sudden braking, and to use fog lights during travel. In case of emergencies, citizens are encouraged to contact PDMA’s helpline at 1129.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, most districts are expected to experience rain with thunder and lightning from Sunday night (9 February) until Tuesday, 10 February, with snowfall in the mountainous areas.
The PDMA Khyber Pakhtunkhwa stated that upper districts including Abbottabad, Haripur, Mansehra, Chitral (upper and lower), Upper and Lower Dir, Swat, Buner, Malakand, Battagram, Shangla, Upper and Lower Kohistan, and Kolai-Palas may see rain with thunder and lightning, along with snowfall in the mountains.
Plains and lowland districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Charsadda, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Kohat, Hangu, Karak, Bannu, North and South Waziristan, Lakki Marwat, Tank, and Dera Ismail Khan, may also experience intermittent rain during this period.
