The Pakistan Navy has successfully carried out a Live Weapon Firing (LWF) of the FM-90(N) ER Surface-to-Air Missile, reinforcing its operational preparedness and maritime defence capability in a complex threat environment.
As per a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Navy conducted the live firing exercise in the North Arabian Sea, where a naval ship launched the FM-90(N) ER Surface-to-Air Missile as part of a scheduled firepower demonstration. The exercise was aimed at validating the Navy’s ability to counter aerial threats in real operational conditions.
During the demonstration, the ISPR said, the missile system effectively engaged highly manoeuvrable aerial targets, showcasing precision, responsiveness, and the robustness of the Pakistan Navy’s layered air defence at sea.
Combat readiness, war-fighting capability
The statement said the successful engagement of fast and agile targets reaffirmed the Pakistan Navy’s war-fighting capability and combat readiness. Such exercises are critical to ensuring that naval units remain fully prepared to respond to evolving airborne threats in the maritime domain.
The live firing also served as a practical validation of crew training, weapon integration, and command-and-control coordination under realistic conditions.
The Pakistan fleet commander witnessed the live firing exercise onboard a Pakistan Navy Fleet unit at sea. His presence highlighted the operational importance of the activity and underscored the Navy’s focus on maintaining high standards of readiness across the fleet.
Following the exercise, the commander commended the officers and men involved for their professionalism, dedication, and operational competence demonstrated during the firing.
Seaward defence, maritime security
