Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto arrived in Pakistan on Monday for a two-day official visit, marking what officials describe as the beginning of a new phase in Pakistan–Indonesia diplomatic relations.
He was welcomed with full ceremonies, including a 21-gun salute, at Islamabad airport.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif personally received the Indonesian leader upon his arrival. Children presented flowers to the distinguished guest as part of the official welcome ceremony.
A 21-gun salute was accorded to honour the visiting president, underscoring the importance Pakistan places on strengthening ties with Southeast Asia’s largest nation.
High-level meetings
During the visit, President Prabowo is scheduled to meet his Pakistani counterpart Asif Ali Zardari. He will also hold delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss the future of bilateral cooperation.
In addition, a key meeting is planned with Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, reflecting the defence and security dimension of the visit.
Expanding cooperation across multiple sectors
Over the two days, both sides will explore ways to deepen collaboration in trade and investment, defence and security, health and medical research, information technology, climate change, and education and culture.
Officials say several important MoUs tied to a new framework for future cooperation are expected to be signed, signalling enhanced long-term engagement between the two countries.
The visit is being hailed as a milestone that could open a new era of high-level diplomatic relations. With both nations seeking stronger economic and strategic partnerships, the engagements in Islamabad are expected to lay the groundwork for expanded collaboration in the coming years.
