Pakistan and Iran have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance bilateral cooperation in the transport sector.
Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan, who led the Pakistani delegation, attended the ECO meeting in the Iranian capital. On this occasion, he held meetings with the Iranian Minister for Roads and Urban Development, Farzana Sadegh, and the Kazakh Minister for Transport, Marat Karabayev. The ministers agreed to strengthen bilateral ties and promote regional connectivity.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, both Abdul Aleem Khan and Farzana Sadegh reiterated the importance of mutual collaboration and expressed commitment to playing an active role in fostering regional cooperation. The Iranian minister warmly welcomed the Pakistani delegation, emphasising the shared religious and cultural bonds between the two nations.
Khan stated that the holding of the ECO conference in Tehran was a positive development and would have a favourable impact on the region. He further remarked that Pakistan is keen to expand land-based connectivity with Central Asian states and views ECO as a vital platform for promoting regional links.
In a separate meeting, Kazakh Minister Marat Karabayev and Abdul Aleem Khan discussed expanding cooperation between Pakistan and Kazakhstan in various sectors, particularly transport. Karabayev expressed a desire to strengthen collaboration, especially in road infrastructure. During the meeting, both sides also exchanged gifts as a gesture of goodwill.
