Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and his wife Bushra Bibi have filed petitions in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking suspension of their sentences in 190 million pound reference.
The petitions have been filed two months after the verdict was announced.
The pleas, submitted by Barrister Salman Safdar, argue that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) misused its authority with malicious intent and that the court issued a hurried verdict based on an incomplete investigation.
The petitions further claim that the investigative agency failed to obtain the original text of the agreement from the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA), which raises questions about the transparency of the investigation. Additionally, it was pointed out that NCA officials were not even included in the inquiry.
The petitioners argue that the prosecution failed to present complete evidence, and therefore, they have requested the court to suspend the sentence announced on January 17 and grant bail until a final decision on the main appeal is reached.
The plea also assured the court that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi will be present at every hearing following the suspension of their sentence.
