Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has said the Makkah defence agreement between Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia is not aimed at Iran.
Expressing his thoughts, he said no country would be regarded as a target unless it attacked one of the member countries. Fidan said the defence agreement was technically similar in nature to Article 5 of the NATO treaty. Under the agreement, a committee of foreign ministers would be established along the lines of NATO, along with a general secretariat.
The Turkish foreign minister said the US would have to compensate Iran for violating the memorandum of understanding to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
He said the security of shipping in the Red Sea was linked to Türkiye's interests.
Fidan also said Türkiye should join the international coalition led by Saudi Arabia.
