US Vice President JD Vance has said work is under way to establish a route for the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, while the United States will maintain pressure on Iran.
Vance said the plan includes an assurance from Iran that commercial ships will not be fired upon, but Washington does not have full confidence in the Iranian assurance.
He said Iran had indicated that it would allow the maximum possible amount of oil to be transported through the Strait of Hormuz. However, some members of the Iranian government have discussed imposing tolls on ships passing through the waterway.
According to Vance, Iranian authorities have assured the United States that no tolls will be imposed on the Strait of Hormuz.
The US vice president also said Iran had assured that oil and gas supplies from the Gulf would continue at the level seen before the war. He said oil and gas supplies were expected to remain at their previous level.
Vance said measures to ensure the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz would continue, while the United States would maintain pressure on Iran.
