The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has dismissed reports claiming that Rohit Sharma's ODI career would end with the third one-day international against England at Lord's.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia rejected the speculation, saying the board had not discussed Rohit Sharma's retirement and that reports describing the Lord's ODI as his final international match were incorrect.
"There has been no discussion regarding Rohit Sharma's retirement in the board," Saikia said, according to Indian media.
He added that Rohit remains an integral part of India's ODI setup and will continue representing the country as long as he remains in the team's plans.
"Rohit Sharma is a permanent member of the Indian ODI team. As long as he is part of the team's plans, he will continue to play for India," Saikia said.
The BCCI secretary also urged fans and the media not to focus on speculation, stressing that the team's immediate priority is the ongoing ODI series against England.
Retirement rumours gain momentum
The clarification came after several Indian media reports claimed selectors were preparing for the 2027 ICC ODI World Cup without the experienced opener, suggesting the Lord's ODI could mark the end of his international one-day career.
The speculation intensified following Rohit's modest performances in the opening two matches of the series against England.
The Indian captain scored 11 runs in the first ODI before managing 26 runs in the second, prompting questions about his form and long-term future.
