The Punjab government has finalized its preparations for Ramazan, ensuring citizens have access to affordable food and essential items.
100 Ramazan bazaars and over 1,200 “Maryam tables” will be set up across 152 tehsils to facilitate smooth distribution.
A total of 100 Ramazan bazaars will operate across the province, accompanied by 1,216 Maryam tables in 152 tehsils. These setups aim to provide subsidized groceries, essential food items, and other necessities to the public at reduced prices.
Under the Ramazan Nigahban package, distribution of cards has begun, costing the government Rs 47 billion, ensuring citizens can access discounted rates at the bazaars.
Subsidized food and discounts
Citizens will benefit from multiple price reductions at Ramazan bazaars and sale points:
-
10 kg bag of flour available at Rs 850
-
20 percent discount on 20 essential items
-
Chicken meat sold at Rs 15 per kg below official rates
-
Sugar capped at Rs 160 per kg
Additionally, 120 sale points will be set up specifically for flour distribution, while 105 large supermarket chains are required to display official sale rate counters to maintain transparency.
Monitoring and quality control
The Food Security and Commodities Management Department has instructed all district commissioners to maintain price stability, while the Para Force will ensure proper implementation of government rates. The Punjab Food Authority has been tasked with monitoring the quality of food items provided at Maryam tables.
A three-day Ramazan Savings Festival will be held in Lahore from tomorrow at Jilani Park, offering further opportunities for citizens to purchase essential items at subsidized rates.
