Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has said that health and education are the provincial government’s top priorities, and substantial investments are being made in both sectors.
She emphasized that Punjab seeks continued cooperation with the World Bank to ensure financial stability and develop sustainable, viable business models.
The chief minister expressed these views during a meeting with World Bank President Ajay Banga, who called on her along with his delegation.
During the meeting, both sides discussed enhancing collaboration in key sectors including health, education, the ‘Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar’ housing initiative, ‘Suthra Punjab’ and climate-related projects.
The two leaders also reviewed the long-standing partnership between the World Bank and the Punjab government. Ajay Banga praised Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s welfare-oriented initiatives and termed the ongoing tourism, education, health, and skill development projects in Punjab commendable.
Projects being implemented in various sectors with World Bank support were reviewed during the meeting. The World Bank delegation assured continued support and investment in the future, particularly in climate action, digital governance, and inclusive development.
Chief Minister said that the Punjab government highly values the World Bank’s cooperation and that the “Connected Punjab” program is being developed in collaboration with the World Bank. She noted that this initiative will not only strengthen IT infrastructure in the province but also help stimulate economic growth.
She further stated that the Punjab government has introduced several measures to improve digital payments, governance, and agriculture. The aim of digitalization, she said, is to enhance efficiency, transparency, and development across the province.
Highlighting governance reforms, Maryam Nawaz said initiatives such as the IT City, international IT certifications, and e-procurement are improving the governance system. With World Bank assistance, irrigation systems have also been upgraded.
The chief minister added that affordable housing is being provided under the ‘Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar’ program, while social welfare schemes such as the ‘Nighaban Package’ and ‘Himmat Card’ have been launched to support deserving segments of society.
