The Federal Constitutional Court has disposed of the suo motu case concerning the murder of journalist Arshad Sharif.
The verdict was authored by Justice Aamer Farooq and runs to 14 pages. A bench comprising Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Razi Khan announced the decision. The court stated that a Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) agreement between Pakistan and Kenya has already been signed.
Furthermore, the verdict said there is no requirement for judicial intervention at this stage. The suo motu case and all connected petitions stand disposed of.
Moreover, the court said it understands the grief of the journalistic community and the people of Pakistan over the killing of Arshad Sharif. The verdict added that the heirs may approach relevant courts regarding any matter.
The court said that Pakistan and Kenya remain in diplomatic contact, adding that both countries are taking steps under their respective laws. The verdict said that investigations continue under the law and there is no need for intervention at present.
