Azad Jammu and Kashmir President Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry passed away at a private hospital in Islamabad.
According to details surfaced on Saturday, Barrister Sultan Mehmood had been unwell for a long time. He was 71 years old. His funeral prayers will be offered tomorrow at 3pm in his ancestral village, Chechian, Mirpur.
Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry was among the region’s senior politicians who remained active in Kashmir’s politics for nearly three and a half decades.
He belonged to a political family. His father, Chaudhry Noor Hussain, was also a prominent figure in Kashmir’s politics.
Condolences
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed grief over the death of Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry.
The prime minister prayed for the elevation of the deceased’s status and for patience for the bereaved. “Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry was a wise and experienced politician. Barrister Sultan spent his entire life in the service of the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Today the people of Azad Kashmir have lost a great leader with the passing of Barrister Sultan,” the premier said.
“The deceased raised a strong voice for the Kashmir cause and against Indian atrocities on the Kashmiri people,” the prime minister said.
“The services of Barrister Sultan and his struggle for the Kashmir cause will always be remembered,” the prime minister added.
Moreover, National Speaker Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has offered condolences on the death of President of Azad Kashmir, Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry.
Sadiq paid tribute to Barrister Sultan’s political and social services. “Barrister Sultan played a major role in highlighting the Kashmir issue at the international level,” said Sadiq.
“His services for keeping the Kashmir issue alive will always be remembered,” said Sadiq.
