Pakistan and Azerbaijan have taken another step toward strengthening bilateral relations as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Azerbaijani President’s Special Representative Khalaf Khalafov, with both sides agreeing to fast-track a landmark $2 billion investment agreement.
The meeting reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral ties. It focused on investment opportunities, mutual cooperation, and the evolving regional situation, underscoring the importance of closer engagement between the two countries.
During the discussion, the prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthen relations with Azerbaijan in all sectors, including political, economic, and energy cooperation.

Both sides agreed to complete the expected $2 billion investment agreement at the earliest, describing it as a major milestone in Pakistan-Azerbaijan economic collaboration.
Agreement termed major breakthrough
Prime Minister Sharif said Azerbaijan is close to finalizing the $2 billion investment agreement, calling it a significant development for economic cooperation between the two friendly countries.
The agreement is expected to open new avenues for investment and strengthen long-term economic partnerships.
The PM expressed his best wishes for Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. He also reiterated his invitation for President Aliyev to pay an official visit to Pakistan in the near future.
Khalaf Khalafov, in return, conveyed President Aliyev’s message of goodwill and warm wishes to the prime minister.
Regional peace and security
The meeting also included detailed discussions on regional peace and security. Prime Minister Sharif stressed the need to maintain close bilateral communication in view of regional challenges.
Both sides agreed that sustained dialogue is essential for promoting stability and cooperation in the region.
Azerbaijani envoy meets Dar
Separately, Khalaf Khalafov also met with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. The meeting focused on expanding bilateral cooperation and enhancing coordination at the regional level.
The Azerbaijani envoy briefed Ishaq Dar on ongoing initiatives under an Azerbaijan-led conference framework. Ishaq Dar reiterated Pakistan’s support for Azerbaijan’s efforts aimed at regional cohesion and cooperation.
Both sides emphasized continued engagement to further deepen Pakistan-Azerbaijan relations.
