Direct air connectivity between Pakistan and Bangladesh has been restored after a gap of 14 years, as Bangladesh’s national carrier Biman Airlines operated its inaugural flight from Dhaka to Karachi, marking a major milestone in bilateral relations.
A Biman Airlines aircraft arrived at Jinnah International Airport from Hazrat Shah Jalal International Airport, carrying 149 passengers. The flight was warmly received, ending a long wait of over a decade for direct air travel between the two countries.
Passengers onboard expressed joy and excitement over the restoration of direct air communication, calling it a long-awaited and welcome development.
Grand welcome
The inaugural flight was given a traditional water salute by the Pakistan Airports Authority, adding to the celebratory atmosphere at the airport.
A special ceremony was held at Karachi airport, attended by senior officials from the Civil Aviation Authority, Pakistan Airports Authority, and the Airport Security Force, along with the Bangladeshi high commissioner.
Governor Sindh welcomes move
The special guest at the ceremony, Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, said that the people of Bangladesh have exposed India and that long-standing conspiracies and distances between Pakistan and Bangladesh have been dismantled after many years.

He appreciated the restoration of direct flights and expressed hope that this positive trend would continue in the future.
Officials confirmed that the Dhaka–Karachi air service will operate on a trial basis from January 29 to March 30, 2026. A decision on continuing or expanding the service will be made after reviewing its performance during this period.
Most tickets for the second flight have already been sold, reflecting strong passenger interest in the revived route.
Return flight schedule
The return flight from Karachi is scheduled to depart at 12:00 PM and will reach Dhaka at 4:20am the following day. Authorities described the strong booking trend as a positive sign for the future of the route.
Officials said the restoration of direct air links is expected to strengthen people-to-people contact, trade, and cultural ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh.
