Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl) has renewed its demand for early general elections, arguing that prolonged political uncertainty is harming the country.
Senator Kamran Murtaza said elections must be held after forming a national government instead of a caretaker setup.
Speaking to Samaa TV, Senator Kamran Murtaza said early elections are the only viable solution to Pakistan’s ongoing political challenges. He stressed that the country cannot move towards stability without fresh public mandate.
He said general elections should be held within the next one year under transparent and neutral conditions.
The JUI-F senator demanded the formation of a national government comprising major political parties before elections. He said such a setup would be more credible than a caretaker government.
According to Kamran Murtaza, a national government formed with consensus would help create an environment of peace and political stability ahead of elections.
Remarks on PTI and chief justice meeting
Commenting on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s demand to meet the Chief Justice, Senator Kamran Murtaza said it was inappropriate for a political party to seek a meeting in the form of a group.
He said that if PTI leaders Barrister Gohar, Ali Zafar, or Salman Akram Raja had requested a meeting in their capacity as lawyers, it could have taken place.
Kamran Murtaza said that had the Chief Justice agreed to meet a political group, it would have drawn criticism. He emphasized that judicial institutions must remain away from political controversies.
Reiterating JUI-F’s stance, Senator Kamran Murtaza said early elections are essential for ending political uncertainty. He added that a neutral Election Commission and a consensus-based national government are key to ensuring credible polls.
