A deeply disturbing incident has shaken Ferozwala after a young, pregnant woman died from severe burn injuries allegedly inflicted by her in-laws over a dowry dispute.
According to police, the incident occurred on Hyder Road in Ferozwala, where a woman named Sana was allegedly set on fire by her in-laws after petrol or kerosene oil was poured on her.
Police said the suspects — Sana’s mother-in-law and father-in-law — fled the scene immediately after the incident.
Victim 5 months pregnant
Sana, who was five months pregnant at the time, sustained 70% burns to her face, arms, and body, according to police and rescue officials. Both Sana and her unborn child later died during treatment, marking the incident as a double tragedy.
Police said Sana was married to a man named Mustafa around six to seven months ago.
Investigators allege the attack was carried out because Sana had brought insufficient dowry, a motive commonly cited in domestic violence cases.
After neighbours heard Sana’s screams, local residents rushed to the scene and alerted police and rescue services. Rescue officials shifted Sana in critical condition to Mayo Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Police search for suspects
Police confirmed that the accused fled immediately after setting Sana on fire and efforts are underway to trace and arrest them. Authorities said further investigation is ongoing, and legal action will be taken against all those found responsible.
The brutal killing has sparked fear and anger among local residents, with many demanding swift arrests and strict punishment for the accused.
Police have assured that the case is being treated with priority and that justice will be pursued under the law.
