The fog and smog that had blanketed Lahore have finally lifted, bringing sunshine and pleasant weather, as authorities warn that a new spell of rain and snowfall is set to impact most parts of Punjab.
Residents of Lahore woke up to clear skies as fog and smog dissipated, allowing sunshine to return and improving air quality. The weather turned noticeably pleasant, offering relief after days of low visibility and pollution.
According to the Punjab Disaster Management Authority, rain is likely in most districts of Punjab from today through January 23. The advisory warns of changing weather patterns that could impact daily life and travel.
Rain is expected in Lahore, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Sahiwal, Multan and Faisalabad divisions, while Dera Ghazi Khan and Bahawalpur are also likely to experience rainfall and cloudy conditions.
Heavy snowfall in Murree and Galiyat
The PDMA has also forecast heavy snowfall and rain in Murree, Galiyat and other mountainous areas. Authorities have cautioned that weather conditions in these regions could become severe, particularly affecting tourists and local residents.
District administrations in Murree have been instructed to remain on high alert due to the increased risk of road blockages and emergencies.
PDMA DG Irfan Ali Kathia has directed all departments concerned to complete arrangements in advance. He emphasized that staff at emergency control rooms must remain alert 24 hours a day during the forecast period.
Rescue 1122 disaster response teams have also been instructed to stay on high alert to respond promptly to any emergency situation.
Facilitation centers set up for tourists
To assist visitors amid the expected snowfall, facilitation centers have been established at various locations in Murree, PDMA officials confirmed. These centers aim to provide guidance and emergency support to tourists during adverse weather.
The PDMA DG urged citizens to follow all precautionary measures issued by authorities and avoid unnecessary travel during bad weather, especially in hilly areas. He advised the public to remain vigilant as conditions may change rapidly.
In case of any emergency, citizens have been instructed to contact PDMA Punjab’s helpline 1129, according to a PDMA spokesperson.
