Former member of the National Assembly and senior religious scholar Qari Muhammad Yousuf has passed away after a period of illness, family sources confirmed on Monday.
Maulana Qari Muhammad Yousuf, a former lawmaker affiliated with the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl, breathed his last after undergoing treatment at a hospital in Islamabad for the past few days. His death has cast a pall of gloom over political and religious circles in Battagram.
Family members said he had been unwell for some time and was receiving medical care before his passing.
According to family sources, the funeral prayer of Maulana Qari Muhammad Yousuf will be offered at Jamia Shasthiat-ul-Islam at 3pm. A large number of religious scholars, political figures and local residents are expected to attend.
Arrangements are being made in Battagram to facilitate mourners paying their final respects.
Political career and parliamentary role
Qari Yousuf was elected as a member of the National Assembly in the 2002 and 2013 general elections, representing his constituency from Battagram. During his tenure, he remained actively involved in parliamentary affairs and constituency issues.
He was regarded as a seasoned politician with strong grassroots support in the region.
In addition to his political career, Maulana Qari Muhammad Yousuf was also the head of Darul Uloom Shasthiat-ul-Islam, where he dedicated decades to religious education and scholarship.
