Nearly half of Pakistanis (48%) say they purchased second-hand clothing -- such as sweaters and coats -- from Landa Bazaars in the past year, according to the latest survey conducted by Gallup & Gilani Pakistan.

In a telling reflection of consumer behaviour and economic realities, the nationally representative poll highlights the enduring relevance of second-hand markets across the country, particularly in times of rising inflation and cost-of-living concerns.

Respondents were asked: “In the past year, have you purchased clothes, sweaters, or coats from second-hand markets (Landa Bazaar)?” In response, 48% answered "yes," while 51% said "no." Just 1% of respondents either did not know or chose not to respond.

The survey was conducted between March 7 and 22, 2025, using Computer-Assisted Telephone Interviewing (CATI). A total of 779 men and women from urban and rural areas across all four provinces participated.

Gallup & Gilani Pakistan, the country’s affiliate of the Gallup International Association, noted that the findings reflect the strong presence of second-hand clothing culture in Pakistani society -- where affordability and practicality often outweigh consumer preferences for brand-new apparel.

Experts say Landa Bazaars have long provided low-cost alternatives to new clothing, especially during winter months. With a wide variety of imported used garments available at significantly lower prices, these markets continue to attract budget-conscious shoppers from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.
