The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) opposed on Wednesday the federal government’s decision to impose an 18% tax on solar panels.
Expressing her thoughts PPP central spokesperson Shazia Marri criticised the 2025–26 budget, stating: “We reject the 18% tax on solar panels. Solar panels are the only viable alternative to expensive electricity.”
“This, too, has now been made inaccessible to the public. The increase in salaries and pensions is insufficient given the current level of inflation,” Marri said.

“People’s lives have become unbearable due to rising prices and unemployment, yet no relief has been provided,” she said.
Marri maintained: “Additional taxes on petroleum products will further exacerbate inflation.”
The PPP stalwart has urged the government to review its taxation policies and prioritise public welfare amid worsening economic challenges.
