Punjab Police have successfully foiled 31 attacks by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) - also referred to as Khawarij - across the province in the last one and a half years, officials said on Saturday.
According to police sources, 22 of these attempts were prevented in the Dera Ghazi Khan district, while nine others were foiled in Mianwali.
These operations resulted in the deaths of 43 foreign terrorists during retaliatory action, officials added.
However, the crackdown came at a cost, with 15 police personnel sustaining serious injuries during the operations against Khawarij elements, the police confirmed.
Punjab IGP describes successes as impressive
Inspector General of Police Punjab Usman Anwar described the successes as “impressive” and said the police force remained vigilant against the ongoing threat.
“Our check posts in border areas have been further strengthened to prevent infiltration,” he said.
The IG highlighted the modernization of border police posts, noting they have been equipped with state-of-the-art thermal imaging cameras, advanced weaponry, and enhanced technological tools to ensure round-the-clock surveillance.
“Personnel deployed at tri-border stations and posts are maintaining a high level of alertness to preempt any security threats,” Usman Anwar added.
