Pakistan's Information Technology (IT) exports experienced a significant increase of 34% in July 2024, reaching $286 million. This rise marks a notable growth compared to the previous 12-month average of $269 million. The IT sector now constitutes 46% of the country’s total exports for the first month of the fiscal year 2025.
The surge in IT exports is largely attributed to policy changes, including the increase in the limit for special foreign currency accounts for exporters from 35% to 50%, as well as the stabilization of the Pakistani rupee. These measures have created a conducive environment for the IT sector to expand its export capabilities.
Looking forward, the IT sector is projected to surpass $3.5 billion in exports for the fiscal year 2025. The Ministry of IT, in collaboration with the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) and supported by the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), is actively working on initiatives to further boost IT exports.
