Pakistan's cotton industry is experiencing a remarkable surge in cotton arrivals, with figures released by the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) indicating a robust performance in the sector.
As of September 15, 2023, cotton arrivals have soared to 3.933 million bales, signifying a remarkable 79.87% year-on-year (YoY) increase compared to the same period last year when arrivals stood at 2.187 million bales.
The substantial growth in cotton arrivals is a promising sign for Pakistan's cotton industry, which plays a pivotal role in the nation's economy.
Notably, when compared to the data for August 31, which reported total arrivals at 3.041 million bales, there has been an impressive 29.33% increase within just a few weeks.
Major cotton-producing regions shine
Sindh province, known as a key cotton-producing region in Pakistan, has demonstrated exceptional performance. Cotton arrivals from Sindh have increased by a staggering 2.15 times YoY, reaching 2.389 million bales. This surge reflects a growing focus on enhancing cotton production in the province.
Comparing this to the figures from August 31, when Sindh's cotton arrivals were at 1.972 million bales, there has been a notable 21.15% increase.
Similarly, Punjab province, another critical cotton-producing region, has shown significant yield. Cotton arrivals from Punjab surged by 44% YoY, totaling 1.544 million bales. This impressive number marks a 44.57% increase compared to the 1.068 million bales reported just two weeks earlier.
Cotton and textile exports bolster
Pakistan has long been recognized as one of the top ten cotton-producing countries globally, and the growth in cotton arrivals reinforces its position in the international cotton market.
