In a significant effort to tackle smog, the Lahore District Education Authority (DEA) has made an important announcement. It has ordered private schools to provide transport facilities to 60% students.
A meeting of the authority was held in Lahore, chaired by DEA Chief Executive Officer Pervez Akhtar.
The meeting discussed the purchase of school buses in view of the rising smog levels. It was attended by officials from 30 major private schools of Lahore.
The DEA has directed private schools to provide transport facilities to children. It said that, in view of the orders of the Lahore High Court, the schools should procure buses at any cost.
Akhtar said that private schools must arrange transport facility for 60% of the students.
The officials of private schools attending the meeting sought time to procure the buses. They will soon submit a report regarding the purchase of buses.
To ensure compliance with the orders, the private schools would be required to purchase the buses and submit certificates guaranteeing the same. Failing to comply with the directives will require the schools to face penalties.
Previously, most of the students in private schools relied on private transport services to and from home.
