The Punjab Home Department has imposed a ban on laser lights, beam lights and rotating projector lights in areas surrounding airports during the Basant festival.
Section 144 has been enforced on the sale and use of lights that affect the airspace. According to the Punjab Home Department, the use of laser lights around airports will remain prohibited on February 6, 7 and 8. Section 144 has been enforced specifically on the use of laser lights during these days.
A notification stated that laser lights, beam lights, rotating projector lights and other lights affecting the sky will be banned in the vicinity of airports. The restrictions will apply within a five-kilometre radius of all airports.
The sale and use of laser lights around airports have been banned for three months. The notification said that laser lights pose serious risks to aircraft during take-off and landing, as laser beams can impair pilots’ vision. The ban has been imposed due to concerns over potential air accidents.
