The Lahore district administration has issued standard operating procedures (SOPs) for Basant and directed district officers, police and relevant departments to enforce safety guidelines.
According to details surfaced on Thursday, the Lahore deputy commissioner has released a code of conduct for the kite-flying festival scheduled from February 6 to 8. The district administration, police and concerned departments have been instructed to implement safety measures. The code applies across Lahore, including all locations, buildings and rooftops, with district officers and police authorised to inspect rooftops and sites.
A strict 12-point code of conduct has been issued to ensure public safety during the festival. Under the policy, there is zero tolerance for hazardous kite strings and aerial firing. The use of metallic, chemical and nylon strings has been strictly prohibited to protect citizens.
In Lahore, the installation of safety rods on motorcycles will be mandatory. Aerial firing and sound systems that disturb public peace will remain banned. Kite flying will not be allowed near the airport or sensitive installations, while rooftop owners will bear personal responsibility for safety arrangements and any incident.
The use of unsafe rooftops for kite flying has been strictly prohibited. Deputy Commissioner Captain (r) Ali Ejaz said the ban on the sale and purchase of dangerous kite strings will be enforced rigorously, with immediate FIRs and strict action against violators.
