Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi visited Khyber district, where he met local elders and addressed a public jirga in Tehsil Bara.
Addressing the gathering, the chief minister said that all political and religious parties had opposed any military operation during the Grand Peace Jirga held for the establishment of lasting peace.
He warned that attempts were being made to sabotage the peace agenda while adding a false impression was being deliberately created through organized propaganda that he had permitted an operation.
He alleged that preparations for an operation were being made to create an anti-government environment under the guise of a self-created terrorism narrative.
The chief minister said that if there had been genuine intentions for peace, the provincial government would have been taken into confidence.
He added that decisions made behind closed doors had always resulted in damage. “The tribal areas are not an experimental ground; people live here,” he said, adding that such designs would not be allowed to succeed.
He reaffirmed that no compromise would be made on the rights of the merged districts and announced that preparations for a street movement would be taken to a decisive stage with full force. He also stated that no government representative had contacted him so far regarding negotiations.
