The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has arrested two key suspects allegedly involved in operating a large-scale fake milk supply network in Punjab.
According to officials, Rauf Bhatti was arrested from Chakwal while Maqsood Bhatti was taken into custody from Rawalpindi. Police said Maqsood Bhatti was wanted in six cases, while Rauf Bhatti was facing eight cases and had been evading arrest for a long time.
A spokesperson for the Punjab Food Authority said the accused were producing and supplying around 200,000 litres of fake milk on a daily basis across Punjab.
The suspects had earlier been expelled from the province but allegedly attempted to set up production units in other provinces and the federal capital. Despite being declared persona non grata, their activities continued, which officials described as a challenge to the writ of the state.
The Director General of the Punjab Food Authority said that intelligence-based operations and surveillance led to the identification and closure of all units linked to the suspects. He added that those involved in the manufacture and supply of fake milk would be prosecuted and brought to justice in accordance with the law.
