Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has conditionally accepted the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) request for talks, saying the government is ready for dialogue if the opposition is serious and committed to political stability.

Addressing a federal cabinet meeting on Tuesday, the prime minister said he wants to move forward with negotiations with the opposition and has already extended invitations in the past.

He reiterated that the government remains open to talks for the sake of political stability but will not accept illegal demands or any form of blackmail under the guise of dialogue.

Commitment to economic strength

The prime minister said he appreciates every effort aimed at making the country economically strong. He stressed that reforms and political engagement must serve national interests and not undermine the rule of law or democratic norms.

PM Shehbaz welcomed the start of the privatization process of Pakistan International Airlines, calling it an important step in economic reform.

He said the highest bidder would be declared successful and reaffirmed his determination to ensure complete transparency throughout the process.

Cabinet reviews national situation

The cabinet reviewed the overall economic, political and security situation of the country. Cabinet members expressed satisfaction with the prevailing conditions and reiterated their collective commitment to development and stability.

The prime minister expressed satisfaction over the stabilization of foreign exchange reserves.

Cabinet members also welcomed the improvement, describing it as a positive sign for economic confidence and fiscal management.

During the meeting, decisions taken by various cabinet committees were formally ratified. Officials said the approvals were part of ongoing governance efforts to ensure continuity in policymaking.

Briefing on foreign visits, diplomacy

PM Shehbaz Sharif also took the cabinet into confidence regarding his recent foreign visits and meetings with international personalities. He expressed confidence that these engagements would help strengthen Pakistan’s diplomatic ties and economic outlook.

The cabinet paid rich tribute to Pakistan’s Under-19 cricket team for its impressive victory against India.

The prime minister said the young players demonstrated excellent performance and expressed hope that they would continue to bring glory to the country in the future.

The cabinet also expressed happiness over Field Marshal Asim Munir receiving the highest Saudi award. Members termed the honour a matter of pride for the entire nation.

Concluding the meeting, the cabinet expressed satisfaction with the overall situation in the country. Members reaffirmed their shared resolve to work collectively for political stability, economic recovery and national development.
