Five policemen were martyred after terrorists opened fire on a police mobile during a routine patrol near Gargri police station on Tuesday.
Authorities have launched a full-scale operation to apprehend the attackers.
Details of attack
According to police sources, the incident occurred when a police mobile carrying five officers came under heavy gunfire in the Gargri area. Four officers were initially reported dead at the scene, with the fifth succumbing to injuries later, confirmed by DPO Karak Saud Khan.
The mobile was conducting routine patrol duties when the terrorists struck, targeting the officers indiscriminately.
A heavy contingent of police, including the DPO, has been dispatched to the site. Authorities have cordoned off the area and are collecting evidence to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
Security officials emphasized that efforts are underway to track down the accused and ensure that the area is secured.
PM Shehbaz, Naqvi condemn the attack
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed deep grief over the martyrdom of the five police personnel. He prayed for the highest ranks of the martyrs and extended condolences to their families, stating that the entire nation salutes their sacrifice.
“The role of the police in the war against terrorism is at the forefront,” the Prime Minister said, reaffirming his government’s commitment to completely eradicating terrorism from the country.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also condemned the firing, describing it as a “clear act of barbarity by savage elements.” He expressed heartfelt sympathy for the families of the martyred officers and praised the police for setting an example of bravery by sacrificing their lives in the line of duty.
“The sacrifices of the martyrs will not go in vain, and the state will respond with full force,” Naqvi added.
