Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, while presenting the budget for 2025–26 in the National Assembly, announced strict measures against non-filers.
During his budget speech, the finance czar proposed increasing the advance tax on cash withdrawals by non-filers from 0.6% to 1%. He said that the new budget includes a proposal to eliminate the distinction between filers and non-filers, adding that only those who submit tax returns and wealth statements will be permitted to engage in financial transactions.
Non-filers will be barred from purchasing vehicles, acquiring immovable property, or investing in securities and mutual funds.
Additionally, a proposal has been made to restrict non-filers from opening bank accounts.
