Unicef has named Saba Qamar as its first National Ambassador for Child Rights in Pakistan, making the announcement on the International Day of the Girl Child -- a day dedicated to promoting girls' rights and acknowledging the unique challenges they face worldwide.
“It’s an honour to join Unicef. I will amplify our shared mission of securing every right for every child, wherever I go,” Qamar said in a press release. “During my recent travels, I’ve witnessed both the difficulties faced by children and women in Pakistan, and the positive impact of Unicef’s work. I’m committed to playing my part for the children and youth of Pakistan, so they can dream and achieve their aspirations."

As Unicef Pakistan’s National Ambassador, the acclaimed 'Kamli' and 'Hindi Medium' actress will use her platform to raise awareness about critical child rights issues, such as child marriage, mental health, lack of education, gender equality, climate change, and the impact of violence, exploitation, and child poverty.
Pakistan ranks sixth globally, with 19 million child brides. More than half of adolescent girls become pregnant before turning 18, posing life-threatening risks to both mother and child.
Unicef warns that without immediate action, child marriage in Pakistan will persist for decades. A comprehensive societal approach is needed to stop this harmful practice and protect the country's young girls, who represent a vital but untapped resource.

She is a bold and passionate advocate for the rights of women and girls,” said Unicef Representative in Pakistan, Abdullah Fadil. “We look forward to working closely with her to spotlight some of the biggest challenges facing children in Pakistan and intensify our efforts to help every child reach their full potential,” he added.
On Thursday, Qamar shared photos from her travels, where she interacted with young girls in an undisclosed location. In her caption, she wrote, “Met some incredible people this week and had some amazing experiences. Many stories to share! More coming soon!”
