Streaming giant Spotify will launch a new “AI Persona” badge in mid-September to clearly identify content producers that are AI-generated rather than real people.
The company said listeners had made clear that they did not like seeing an artist profile that appeared to be human, only to later discover that the persona was AI-generated.
Spotify moves to boost transparency over AI-made music
The move is Spotify’s latest effort to maintain transparency about how music on its platform is made, amid growing concern in the music industry that AI-generated content could overwhelm streaming catalogues.
In April, Spotify launched its “Verified by Spotify” badge, indicating that a profile had been reviewed and met the company’s authenticity standards.
Spotify said it would also apply the new badge to relevant artist profiles that disclose themselves as AI Personas.
The company said AI Personas would not be included in editorial or personalised recommendations unless a user followed an AI Persona.
