Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan and the All Pakistan Goods Transporters Alliance have finalised decisions reached after two days of talks.
Aleem Khan said efforts had been made to provide maximum relief in view of the prevailing situation in the country. On his instructions, a joint monitoring committee comprising Customs officials and goods transporters has been formed.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar assured goods transporters of action on key issues through a video link, while Aleem Khan assured them that complaints about weight stations would be addressed soon.
Aleem Khan said state-of-the-art weight stations with minimum human resources would be established on all motorways. The talks have also covered short- and long-term strategies to resolve problems faced by transporters in dealings with Customs officials.
On the instructions of the communications minister, consultations between senior FBR officials and goods transporters on their key proposals have also been completed.
The officials from Port and Shipping and Karachi Port Trust briefed the transporters on important matters. Senior ministry officials also assured them regarding the determination of petroleum product prices.
The transporters proposed that the axle-load issue should be controlled from the outset through a uniform policy.
The goods transporters’ delegation thanked Aleem Khan for his hospitality in Islamabad and praised him for dealing with the issues in an effective manner.
