Pakistan's security forces killed 10 terrorists belonging to Fitna al Khawarij during two separate intelligence-based operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the military's media wing said on Friday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operations were carried out in South Waziristan and Upper Dir, targeting militants allegedly backed by India.
Attack on checkposts foiled
The first operation was conducted on August 6 in the Azam Warsak area of South Waziristan after terrorists attempted to attack security forces' checkposts.
The ISPR said troops responded swiftly, foiling the assault and killing eight terrorists during an intense exchange of fire.
Operation in Upper Dir
In a separate operation in Upper Dir, security forces killed two more terrorists, bringing the total number of militants killed in the twin operations to 10.
The military said weapons, ammunition and a large cache of explosives were recovered from the dead militants, who were allegedly involved in multiple terrorist activities in the region.
Sanitisation and clearance operations are continuing to eliminate any remaining militants in the area.
The ISPR said Pakistan's security forces and law enforcement agencies would continue counterterrorism operations under the Azm-e-Istehkam initiative, approved by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan, to eradicate foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country.
PM lauds security forces
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended the security forces for successfully carrying out the operations in South Waziristan and Upper Dir.
In a statement, the prime minister praised the professionalism, courage and sacrifices of Pakistan's security personnel, saying the nation stood firmly behind them in the fight against terrorism.
He said the government would thwart the designs of elements spreading terrorism with Indian backing and vowed that operations under Azm-e-Istehkam would continue until terrorism was completely eradicated from Pakistan.
