Imran Khan, the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has addressed a letter to Justice Qazi Faez Isa, the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), imploring the Supreme Court to guarantee the protection and upholding of fundamental rights for every citizen.

The letter, supported by documentary evidence, highlights concerns about the indiscriminate use of fake cases and arrests, particularly targeting individuals affiliated with the PTI.

In his letter, the PTI chairman highlights how important it is for the highest court to protect individuals’ fundamental rights and stop the abuse of legal processes including false case registrations and arbitrary arrests. It underscores the need for intervention to address various tactics employed to retaliate against PTI members.

Particularly concerning incidents were brought up, such as the detention and extended confinement of women associated with PTI since May 9. The letter points out instances where High Courts issued arrests in unknown cases, yet failed to implement these decisions.

In addition, the letter argues that it would be difficult to hold a fair general election on February 8 without the involvement of the highest court. A commission has been urged to be established in this respect in order to guarantee an impartial and transparent electoral process.

In his letter, Mr. Khan also requests the establishment of a committee to look into the disappearance of journalists and political workers.
