Actor Vijay Varma has said he is drawn to flawed and emotionally complex characters, arguing that imperfections and inner conflict make stories more compelling than portraying flawless heroes.
Known for taking on unconventional and morally ambiguous roles, Varma said characters with emotional depth offer actors greater creative opportunities while keeping audiences invested.
Speaking about his acting philosophy, the actor credited his background in literature and theatre for shaping his approach to selecting roles.
"I studied literature and also did theatre. In acting, the two most important things are conflict and human flaws. These are what make a character exciting for an actor," Vijay said.
He explained that roles featuring emotional struggles or personal imperfections immediately become more engaging.
"Any role that carries flaws or emotional conflict immediately becomes more compelling. Conflict keeps the audience invested, and people connect deeply with imperfections," he said.
The actor added that perfect characters often fail to sustain audience interest.
"If you play a character who is completely perfect, the audience may not even feel curious enough to watch the next episode," he said.
Vijay has built a reputation for portraying layered characters across films and streaming projects, earning praise for performances that explore the grey areas of human behaviour.
The actor also has a busy slate of upcoming projects, including Lust Stories 3, Matka King 2, Family Business, and Antony, where he is expected to continue exploring complex and unconventional roles.
