Armed militants of the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) abducted a woman at gunpoint on Wednesday evening in the Balicha area of District Kech, once again drawing attention to the targeting of civilians by militant groups.
Official sources said the incident took place between 4:30 pm and 4:45 pm when a Corolla car stopped outside a residence in Balicha. Armed BLA militants forced a woman, identified as Nargis, into the vehicle and fled. The incident reflects the continued targeting of civilians, including women, as part of militant activity aimed at spreading fear.
The woman’s husband and nephew followed the vehicle and intercepted it near Nasirabad. As they approached, an armed militant stepped out of the car carrying a Kalashnikov. Shortly afterwards, more militants arrived on motorcycles to provide support, indicating prior coordination and planning.
During the confrontation, the family members were assaulted and their mobile phones were taken. Such acts point to the use of intimidation to deter resistance and silence witnesses within the local community.
The abduction underlines the exposure of women to militant violence and shows a recurring pattern in which civilians are subjected to coercion to serve militant objectives. It highlights the harsh methods employed by banned organisations to maintain influence.
The incident also raises questions about selective narratives advanced by BLA-linked groups, including the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), which remain silent on acts of abduction and coercion carried out by militants. Such violence contributes directly to insecurity in the region.
Police and security agencies have launched efforts for the safe recovery of Nargis, with officials stating that all available leads are under examination to trace those involved.
Authorities stressed that abduction, armed intimidation, and attacks on families hold no political justification. The targeting of civilians, particularly women, remains a criminal act that threatens public safety and social stability in Balochistan.
