Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider said on Tuesday that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is supporting the incumbent government out of necessity, not choice.
Addressing party workers in Sargodha, he said the PPP has always prioritised national interests over personal gain, strengthened institutions when in power, and remains the only party capable of resolving public issues.
He urged workers to prepare for the next election, expressing confidence that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari would be the next prime minister.
PPP decides not to oppose Daanish Schools bill
Earlier, few days back, the PPP has decided not to oppose the bill related to Daanish Schools.
According to sources, the government has addressed the PPP’s reservations regarding the Daanish Schools bill, the Domestic Violence bill and the National Commission for Human Rights bill. The government has agreed to include the amendments proposed by the PPP in all three bills. Following this, the PPP has given an assurance of support for the legislation to be presented in the joint sitting of parliament.
Sources said the government made further contact with the PPP regarding the joint session. Speaker Ayaz Sadiq and Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar met a PPP delegation and briefed them on the proposed legislation. The PPP delegation included Naveed Qamar, Sherry Rehman and Ejaz Jakhrani. The party had earlier raised objections to the three bills set to be tabled in the joint sitting.
