Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed the installation of fire safety equipment after the incident in Lahore hotel.
The chief minister on Tuesday chaired a meeting focused on fire incidents and building safety, emphasizing the importance of preparedness and swift emergency response.
Addressing the meeting, CM Nawaz said the Safe City project had played a key role in supporting relief operations during recent emergencies. Commenting on the Gul Plaza fire, she described it as a ‘major tragedy’ and expressed solidarity with the victims, saying they share in their grief.
She also offered support to the Sindh government, stating that Punjab would extend assistance if required. Highlighting successful containment of a fire in a Lahore building, CM Nawaz said Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) have been issued to ensure building safety across the province.
She applauded the timely arrival of officials at the site of the building and also applauded the 1122 department for the timely evacuation of the trapped individuals at the site of hotel.
The chief minister also especially praised the Rescue 1122 DG and said his team arrived at the site on time.
Further stressing emergency preparedness, she announced that all necessary resources would be provided to Rescue 1122 for upgrades and enhancement. CM Nawaz also highlighted the need to eliminate illegal encroachments to prevent future hazards and insisted that all buildings must be equipped with fire safety equipment.
