The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has decided not to oppose the bill related to Daanish Schools.
According to sources, the government has addressed the PPP’s reservations regarding the Daanish Schools bill, the Domestic Violence bill and the National Commission for Human Rights bill. The government has agreed to include the amendments proposed by the PPP in all three bills. Following this, the PPP has given an assurance of support for the legislation to be presented in the joint sitting of parliament.
Sources said the government made further contact with the PPP regarding the joint session. Speaker Ayaz Sadiq and Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar met a PPP delegation and briefed them on the proposed legislation. The PPP delegation included Naveed Qamar, Sherry Rehman and Ejaz Jakhrani. The party had earlier raised objections to the three bills set to be tabled in the joint sitting.
Sources said the PPP’s concerns over the Daanish Schools, domestic violence and National Commission for Human Rights bills have now been resolved. The government has shown agreement to incorporate the PPP’s amendments in the joint session legislation. The PPP has, in turn, assured its support.
A meeting of the PPP’s consultative committee was also held in connection with the joint session of parliament. Parliamentary leaders of the PPP said the government has removed their concerns over the bill and that they will not oppose it. The Daanish Schools bill is likely to be presented in the joint session tomorrow.
