Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep grief over the fire at Gul Plaza on MA Jinnah Road in Karachi, which claimed at least five lives and left more than 20 injured.
He called for swift action to provide medical care and support to those affected by the tragedy.
PM Sharif conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured. He emphasized that the government stands with the victims and their loved ones during this difficult time.
Shehbaz Sharif instructed authorities to ensure the best possible medical treatment for all injured individuals, including those in critical condition. Hospitals in Karachi were directed to provide full assistance to handle the emergency.
Directives for rescue
The Prime Minister directed all relevant agencies to work together in the ongoing rescue operation. Given reports that 30–35 people might still be trapped inside the multi-storey plaza, he emphasized that saving lives remains the top priority.
Shehbaz Sharif also instructed authorities to take all possible measures to safeguard the lives and property of citizens in and around the affected area. Special focus was placed on ensuring the safety of nearby buildings amid concerns over structural collapse.
The Prime Minister pledged that affected traders and citizens would receive all possible assistance to recover from the disaster. He stressed that rehabilitation and support efforts should begin immediately.
Fire incident and casualties
The fire broke out around 10:15 p.m. on Saturday, quickly spreading from the ground floor to the upper levels of Gul Plaza. Firefighters battled the flames for hours, facing challenges from explosions, toxic smoke, and fears of the building collapsing.
Rescue officials confirmed five deaths and over 20 injuries. The deceased include Faraz, Kashif, Aamir, and Shahroz, while the fifth victim is yet to be identified. Several injured individuals remain in critical condition.
Firefighters and emergency teams continue to search the building, navigating heavy smoke and debris to locate potential survivors still trapped inside.
