The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather alert warning of heavy rain and snowfall in northern Pakistan as a fresh spell of westerly winds is set to impact the region over the coming days.
According to the NDMA spokesperson, a new series of westerly winds will enter the country from January 16 and remain active until January 22.
The system is expected to bring heavy rain and snowfall, particularly in northern and mountainous regions.
Gilgit-Baltistan, upper KP, Kashmir affected
The NDMA said heavy rain and snowfall are expected in Gilgit-Baltistan, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Kashmir. Authorities warned that adverse weather conditions could disrupt daily life and travel in these areas.
Moderate to heavy snowfall is expected in Gilgit, Hunza, Skardu, Astore, Chitral, Dir, Malam Jabba, and Swat. These areas are likely to experience significant snowfall, increasing the risk of road closures.

The NDMA further warned of moderate to heavy snowfall in Battagram, Naran, Kaghan, Galiyat, and Murree. Tourists and residents in these areas have been advised to remain cautious.
Advisory for public, authorities
The NDMA urged relevant authorities to remain on high alert and ensure preparedness for possible emergencies. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in snow-prone areas, and to follow official advisories.
