The Permanent posts for 2,115 doctors have been abolished at the District Headquarters (DHQ) and Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) hospitals across Punjab.
According to details surfaced on Thursday, the permanent positions at the DHQ and THQ hospitals have been abolished. New posts will be introduced on a consolidated pay package instead of the permanent service structure.
Recruitment in hospitals will take place on a fixed pay basis. The new posts will not carry permanent service status.
With this decision, the system of permanent employment, pension, and promotion will cease for these positions.
Approval has been granted for the creation of 2,115 new posts. These posts have been introduced under a special pay package.
The provincial cabinet has approved the Secondary Level Human Resource Rules 2025.
According to the health department, the move will improve the availability of doctors in hospitals and strengthen service delivery at DHQ and THQ facilities.
The finance department has allowed expenditure for the current financial year 2025–26.
New appointments will be made on the recommendations of the Selection Board.
The new policy will apply to all districts of the province.
