Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah on Tuesday dismissed concerns surrounding the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment, saying it is “not a storm” and that consultations have only just begun.
Speaking to the media, Rana Sanaullah clarified that no amendment will be made without consensus among political allies and parliamentary stakeholders. He stressed that the amendment is being unnecessarily presented in a frightening way, despite the fact that only preliminary discussions are taking place.
Rana Sanaullah emphasized that consultations with coalition partners are ongoing, and nothing will be finalized without collective agreement. “Things will be brought to the fore only after discussions with allies,” he said, urging calm and patience.

Responding to comments by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, he asked, “Which of the things mentioned by Bilawal Bhutto is not under discussion?” and reaffirmed that the process is consultative and transparent.
PML-N respects 18th Amendment
Clarifying his party’s position, the adviser said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has no issue with the 18th Amendment, which defines the distribution of resources between the federation and the provinces.
He, however, underlined the need for better balance in financial allocations. “After paying off defense expenses and loans, the federation has nothing left,” he noted, emphasizing the importance of equitable resource sharing to ensure fiscal stability across Pakistan.
Amendments aim to improve Constitution
Calling the constitution a sacred document, Rana Sanaullah said it is not “the final word” and that amendments are made only to improve it. He reminded that 26 amendments have already been made to Pakistan’s Constitution, each designed to enhance governance and adapt to evolving national needs.
He further stated, “If a two-thirds majority in parliament agrees, the Constitution can be amended. The matters being discussed after the 26th Amendment will continue — it’s not that we’re bringing the 27th Amendment overnight.”

Highlighting the democratic spirit of open discussion, Rana Sanaullah said that positive debate and dialogue among parliamentarians and political parties are signs of a healthy democracy.
He reiterated that various issues are being discussed among parties and that no proposal has yet been finalized. “Constructive discussions and consultations will continue,” he added, reaffirming the government’s commitment to democratic norms.
