The parliamentary party of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) have unanimously rejected the resignation of Umar Ayub from his position as Secretary General.
Despite his insistence that he resigned voluntarily and in consultation with the PTI’s founder, the party and council members are urging him to reconsider.
During a meeting held in Islamabad, a resolution was passed by the PTI and SIC members, emphasizing their collective decision not to accept Ayub’s resignation. They expressed confidence in his ability to effectively manage party affairs and called for his continued leadership.
The participants of the meeting decided to send a formal letter to the PTI’s founder, requesting him to persuade Ayub to remain in his role as Secretary General. They stressed the importance of resolving any differences amicably and maintaining unity within the party ranks.
The opposition leader, addressing the meeting, reiterated that his resignation was a personal decision. He cited constituency issues and ongoing legal cases as reasons for needing time away from party responsibilities.
However, the party members remained resolute in their stance, highlighting the crucial role Ayub plays in PTI’s organisational structure.
The meeting also witnessed displeasure over a tweet by Sher Afzal Marwat, with many members expressing that Marwat’s public statements were inappropriate and could have been handled differently. The party emphasized the need for internal matters to be discussed and resolved within the appropriate forums.
